All 62 people on board were killed when a plane crashed in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil

A plane crashed in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, killing all 62 people on board.

The twin-engine turboprop plane was flying from Cascaval in the southern state of Paraná to Sao Paulo’s main airport when it crashed in the city of Vinhedo, airline company Vobas said.

In the footage circulating on social media, one of the planes appeared to be in a vertical descent.

There were 58 passengers and four crew members on board. Local officials said there were no survivors.

The plane landed in a residential area, but no one on the ground was injured, officials said.

They said only one house in a local condominium complex was damaged and none of the residents were injured.

Brazil’s GloboNews television network showed images of the wreckage, a large part of which was engulfed in flames and smoldering in an area full of homes.

Police and fire departments have been called to the scene and local hospitals have been alerted.

According to the tracking website Flightradar24, the plane was built in 2010 and took off from Cascavel at 11:56 local time (14:56 GMT). The last signal from the plane was received an hour and a half later.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva paid tribute to the victims.

“I have to be the bearer of very bad news and I want everyone to stand up for a minute of silence,” he told his audience.

He posted the news of the accident on social media and said, “It is very sad. My deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims.”
