Storms rip through Northeast Ohio, leaving hundreds of thousands without power

As of Tuesday afternoon, heavy rain and strong winds traveled across Northeast Ohio, causing a wave of destruction and leaving about 470,000 people without power.

As of 2:30 pm on Wednesday, the following districts experienced power outage.

  • Cuyahoga: 203,656
  • Ashtabula: 13,262
  • Keuga: 27,048
  • Lake: 57,139
  • Lorraine: 18,594
  • Portage: 3,609
  • Summit: 1,611
  • Trumbull: 7,811

The entire News 5 viewing area was under a severe thunderstorm warning at one point, and half a dozen counties were under a tornado warning.
By the time the storm left our area, trees were downed, power lines were down, and even boats had capsized at the marina in Lorraine.

In Mentor, fire crews had to lift a car after a motorist drove around a barrier and into downed wires.

Everywhere in the bay village trees were leaning.

Lorain County Storm Damage

A house in Bay Village had its entire driveway blocked by a fallen tree.

Near East 127th Street in Brattenhall and East Cleveland, residents were clearing damage after the storms passed. A tree fell on a person’s front porch.

In Parma Heights, an apartment complex on Kingsdale Boulevard had its entire roof ripped off.

In the Willoughby Hills, downed trees on major roads caused delays for motorists in the area.

In Euclid, a resident’s 1969 Mini Cooper was damaged when a tree fell on its roof.
