Harris campaign aides said they have recruited 170,000 new volunteers since last Sunday and will hold 2,300 events this weekend to rally grassroots supporters. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D), who is under serious consideration as Harris’ running mate, rallied supporters in Carlisle, Pa., and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walls in St. Petersburg on Saturday. According to the Associated Press’ delegate monitor, Harris quickly cleared the field of any serious competition and secured pledges from enough Democratic delegates to clinch the nomination Monday night. He received critical acclaim from many, including Barack and Michael Obama. He is now in the midst of an intense search for a running mate – he wants to make a decision before August 7, when the National Party almost nominates a ticket.
The vice president attended a fundraiser in the Berkshires, Massachusetts, on Saturday that is expected to bring in $1.4 million for the campaign, one of the hosts said. He told the crowd that Trump and his allies had resorted to some “wild lies” about his record: “What he and his partner are saying, it’s so weird,” Harris said to laughter at the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield. Mass. “That’s the box you put it in.”
